OLM Girls U14 team wins GSC Barcelona Cup and nets Holmes Mackillop as shirt sponsor

The U14 team at OLM Girls, an established and growing community grassroots girls football team based in Giffnock, has won the GSC Barcelona Cup, a local youth football tournament for girls, and netted shirt sponsorship from Holmes Mackillop Solicitors’ Giffnock office to boot.

The club’s main recruiting ground for players is the local Our Lady of the Missions Primary school, though it is open to all and features players from a range of primary schools within East Renfrewshire.

The OLM Football teams at a senior girls and boys level recruits pupils from across the secondary and private schools in East Renfrewshire, including Belmont, Woodfarm, St Ninians, Mearns Castle, Eastwood High and further afield within the greater Glasgow southside area including Shawlands Academy, Hillpark and St Pauls.

Carol Ann McKellar, practice manager at Holmes Mackillop, said: “Our Giffnock office is delighted to champion this winning growing community grassroots girls football team via this shirt sponsorship and congratulates the U14 team on its latest victory!”

Murdoch MacDonald, trustee at OLM Football Club, said: “The sponsorship from Holmes Mackillop is greatly appreciated, will support the kitting out of our budding future stars and help ensure that football remains accessible to all our girls, keeping them physically and mentally active – with a focus on playing football and having fun.

“As a football club we have made great strides to ensure we have good structures and governance in place and appeal to as many boys and girls as possible, to ensure they remain as physically active in training and playing football.”

The OLM teams are open to all girls who want to give football a go – with over 120 girls from P1 to S5 regularly training and playing football in a supportive and encouraging environment. The club recently gained charity status with OSCR, and this season has been upgraded from a bronze to a silver quality mark with the SFA.
