Holmes Mackillop trio completes John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon
Saturday night saw Craig Donnelly, Ross Brown and Sam Hamilton from Holmes Mackillop Solicitors raise funds for The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice by going on the run under cover of darkness at the John Muir Way Nocturnal Ultra Marathon.
The challenge was ‘simple’: runners had six hours to complete as many loops of the 5km off-road route as possible.
The mission of The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is to provide high quality, person-centred care for all those affected by life-limiting conditions. It receives a percentage of its funding from the NHS, but depends mostly on voluntary donations, fundraising events and legacies to maintain its invaluable services for the people of Glasgow.
“The nocturnal ultra marathon is an event where participants run a well-marked 5k trail loop to see who can cover the most ground in six hours, all under cover of darkness,” said Donnelly.
“It was a tough but enjoyable event. The course was mostly flat but did have two cheeky hills including one at the end which sapped the legs. We completed 11 laps to finish sixth overall in the men’s relay event.
“There was a great atmosphere with music, race snacks and even woodfired pizzas – probably not the best fuel for an endurance event but definitely good for morale!
“We’re grateful to everyone who has donated so far and would love to for there to be a boost this week to help the hospice continue its fantastic work. Our fundraising page is still open for anyone who wants to donate here www.justgiving.com/page/homack.”
