Holmes Mackillop signs up as corporate sponsor of South Ayrshire’s Field of Heroes

The Ayr office of Holmes Mackillop Solicitors has signed up as corporate sponsor of South Ayrshire’s Field of Heroes event honouring the fallen.

Following the profound impact of last year’s VE Day 80th anniversary, the Field of Heroes returns to Ayr where, from 1st – 13th July, Wellington Square will host 130 striking military silhouettes by Standing with Giants—the acclaimed artists behind the landmark displays in Normandy and Portsmouth.

And for the first time – in what is believed to be a first in the UK – this year’s Field of Heroes will feature eight silhouettes of horses, which played a huge part in the First World War.

This immersive installation commemorates the 110th Anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, offering a space for reflection, education, and remembrance. Each silhouette will be linked to a personal story of a South Ayrshire soldier who gave their life in the First World War.

Peter McNamara, Holmes Mackillop Director, head of its Ayr office, said: “We are delighted to honour the fallen through our corporate sponsorship of this profoundly moving event marking the sacrifices made by soldiers from South Ayrshire in the First World War.”

Helen Slane at South Ayrshire’s Field of Heroes added, “Thanks to Holmes Mackillop’s support, South Ayrshire’s Field of Heroes returns next month with an opportunity for visitors to walk amongst the giants and join guided tours led by expert guides from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and local historians.”

The opening commemorations will take place on July 1 at 7.30am and 2pm, with a service of remembrance at 7pm on the same day. Daily tours will take place at 2pm until July 13, exploring various aspects of the Somme campaign.
